Man blinds daughter-in-law in stabbing

A Sikh man living in London blinded his daughter-in-law after stabbing her in the eyes, believing she had had an affair with a Muslim man, according to the Daily Mail.

Manjit Mirgind, 51, attacked his daughter-in-law, Jageer Mirgind, in her house in Kensington Gardens, where he slashed her wrists, punched her and the stabbed her eyes with a knife, while screaming that she had ruined his family by sleeping with a Muslim man.

Jageer’s young children, aged 3 and 6, were present during the attacked, according to the newspaper. Manjit then went home while his wife called for an ambulance.

Jageer was left blind and has developed a stutter and insomnia from the shock. Reports say the children are unable to sleep and have nightmares as well.

While Mirgind reportedly believed the woman had had an affair with a Muslim man, she was actually the victim of prank calls and the affair never existed.

Mirgind admitted that he was responsible for the crime. He told police he was an honest man and too stressed out at that time. Though, he admitted that his crime couldn’t be forgiven and that he only wanted to protect her. He said he is deeply sorry.

Mirgind was sentenced to 10 years and 8 months in prison, while Jageer has moved to Nottingham with her family.
