South Korean oil refinery S-Oil, which is wholly owned by Saudi Aramco, has donated 145 million won ($130,000) to help children in low-income families suffering from biliary obstruction, the firm said Wednesday.

The fund has been gathered by some 1,800 company executives and employees donating less than 10,000 won each from their wage for several months, the company explained.

Biliary obstruction occurs when one of the ducts that carry bile from liver to the intestine gets blocked. Without treatment it can lead to serious complications and infections.

“This campaign that has been going on for 11 years is participated in by all members of the firm, and S-Oil will continue to work on helping families with children suffering from the illness,” the firm said.

It has been working with Korea National Council on Social Welfare for the project since 2009.

On the same day, S-Oil also delivered a 47.5 million won donation to the Community Chest of Korea.

The donation amount was made by doubling the 23.8 million won worth of gas points donated by customers.
