The Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association announced Tuesday that it will offer free inspection services by five automakers during the Lunar New Year holiday this weekend.

From Thursday to Sunday, Hyundai Motor, Kia Motors, GM Korea, Renault Samsung Motors and Ssangyong Motors will offer their customers vehicle inspection services free of charge at 22 participating highway rest stops and 48 service centers nationwide.

The services will be offered at northbound rest stops on Thursday and Friday (until Saturday for Kia), while those at southbound rest stops will be available Saturday and Sunday. They will be available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Each service inspection will include engine, brake and tire checks as well as coolant and oil refills. Wiper blades, bulbs and other small parts can be exchanged free of charge following the inspection. If necessary, emergency dispatch services will be provided to nearby vehicles.

In addition, the auto companies will set up an operation room where drivers can receive expert advice and traffic and safety tips for the long-haul holiday drives.

Hyundai Motor Group also announced Tuesday that its operation room will be available 24 hours a day. In the event of an accident the company said it will provide customers with towing, repair and car hire services.
