The presidential office Cheong Wa Dae on Tuesday rebuked media for publishing a slew of "regrettable" articles regarding a corruption scandal involving President Park Geun-hye's close confidante, calling for prudence.

One of the latest reports alleged that Park's remarks portraying the reunification of the Korean Peninsula as an "economic bonanza" were made by Choi Soon-sil at the center of the scandal -- a claim Cheong Wa Dae has dismissed as "clearly false."

The presidential office has said that Park's remarks on unification were derived from a book written by Shin Chang-min, professor emeritus of Chung-Ang University.

"There has been an overflowing of articles in which facts are pushed aside with the false content becoming the headlines or main subjects," Jung Youn-kuk, presidential spokesman, told reporters.

"If you look at online reports by some media outlets, there are many regrettable articles carrying expressions that I can fairly say left us at a loss for words," he said.

This week, the presidential office has continued to repudiate media reports carrying allegations it views as unfounded. It even said some of the articles constitute "grave libel." (Yonhap)
