Despite mounting calls for her to do something, President Park Geun-hye on Thursday remained silent on what steps she will take to regain public trust, amid an unfolding scandal that her close friend, a 60-year-old woman named Choi Soon-sil, used her ties to the president to interfere with state affairs.

The embattled state leader went about her official schedule as planned, visiting the southern port city of Busan where an event was held to mark the Day of Local Autonomy.

“We have to create a new virtuous cycle of the central and provincial governments working together as one to breathe fresh life into the entire nation,” Park said in her speech at the BEXCO exhibition center.

Political parties across the aisle are upping pressure on Park to completely overhaul the presidential secretariat, with some lawmakers even calling for the Cabinet to resign en masse.

Park’s ruling Saenuri Party on Wednesday proposed to the president a sweeping personnel reshuffle, to which Park responded by saying, “I will give it thorough thought.”
