North Korea wants Park Geun-hye to step down from office, according to an article in a North Korean newspaper.

Rodong Sinmun, the mouthpiece for Pyongyang‘s ruling Workers’ Party of Korea, claimed that the scandal surrounding Park’s close friend Choi Soon-sil has “effectively brought down the administration.”

“After the rumor that Choi interfered in state affairs was proven to be true, all sectors within South Korea have become enraged,” it said, referring to a series of media reports indicating that Choi had access to confidential information. A recent media report in South Korea claimed that Choi was notified of multiple military meetings between the North and South in 2012, which was classified information.

The Rodong Sinmun article said that Park and her party’s rule is “at its lowest point,” and said that the Korean public has been calling for her to step down.

Pyongyang’s propaganda website Uriminzokkiri said Park should be “dragged down from position of power.”
