Samsung Display seeks to expand market for public screens

Samsung Display, a display panel-making unit of Samsung Electronics, has deployed a new production line exclusively designed to manufacture high quality public information display panels to meet growing demand on panels for public use.

“Public information displays” refer to those used for video walls, indoor and outdoor signage and interactive whiteboards. It also includes transparent displays for commercial use.

The new production line allows the company to produce panels that have bezels as thin as 1.7 millimeters and a luminance of up to 5,000 candelas per square meter, designed to deliver clear images with ultra-high definition resolution, it said. They are more durable and energy efficient, it added.

To provide easier access to product information to potential clients in and out of the country, the company has also launched a website.

“This new PID communication portal provides our customers and future customers with easy anytime-anywhere access to important information that simplifies decision-making in the purchasing and use of PID panels,” said Yang O-seung, vice president and head of the LCD marketing team at Samsung Display.

“We will continue to do everything possible to provide the marketing information that best addresses our customers’ display needs.”

The company’s new marketing strategy came amid the market seeing a growing demand on public displays.

According to market research firm IHS Markit, the size of overall sales of public displays is expected grow 22 percent yearly from $5.8 billion in 2016 to $12.7 billion in 2020.
