South Korean cosmetics giant AmorePacific and the Korea Breast Cancer Foundation held the Seoul leg of the 2016 Pink Ribbon Love Marathon for breast cancer awareness Sunday.

The Seoul marathon was the last of an annual series of races that aim to spread public awareness about breast cancer -- the most common form of cancer among women -- and raise funds for low-income breast cancer patients.

The marathons are hosted by the Korea Breast Cancer Foundation, which was founded in 2000 with funding from AmorePacific. As of last year, some 275,000 people have participated in the races, which first began in 2001, raising more than 2.9 billion won ($2.52 million) for the foundation.

On Sunday, some 10,000 men and women gathered at the Hangang Park in Yeouido to take part in the marathon, which marked its 16th anniversary this year.

The Pink Ribbon Love Marathon for breast cancer awareness has taken place in other cities around Korea including Busan in April, Daejeon in May, Gwangju in June and Daegu in September.
