S-Oil’s newly appointed CEO Othman Al-Ghamdi participated in a volunteer event on Thursday to support the underprivileged in his first official appearance as CEO, the company said.

Some 100 employees and executives of Korea’s third-largest oil refiner visited a community center in central Seoul, run by Ewha Womans University, to deliver presents for neighbors in need ahead of the Chuseok holiday, which will begin on Sept. 14.

They handmade “songpyeon,” traditional Korean rice cake, and delivered them along with groceries and daily necessities to 800 low-income households at the center, the firm said in a statement.

“I understand that during Chuseok Koreans celebrate the harvest and spread “jeong” (affection) by sharing food with neighbors,” said CEO Othman. “I hope our small gifts can also deliver warmth to those who have to spend the holidays alone,” he added.
