Hanwha steps up efforts to curb desertification in China

Hanwha Group is stepping up its efforts to create more forests in Chinese desert areas to prevent desertification and sand dust, officials said Friday.

Top officials from the nation’s business conglomerate on Thursday had a tree planting ceremony in Maowusu desert in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, northwestern part of China.

At the ceremony, Hanwha promised to plant 50,000 trees in the desert to grow a forest, according to the firm.

This is not the first time that Hanwha made efforts to the region to curb desertification. Ahead of the recent contribution, the firm created two other forests in 2013 and 2015.

Thanks to the dedications, Yinchuan City and the nature reserve adminisstration in Ningxia province delivered an appreciation plaque to the firm at the ceremony.

“We would like to keep engaging ourselves in environmental issues and provide a solution, to fully take social responsibility as a corporate,” said Hanwha Vice President Choi Sun-mok.
