The world’s biggest drone maker DJI is slated to open its first indoor drone arena on Thursday in South Korea.

The 1,395-square-meter arena is to open in Yongin, a city in the south of Seoul’s greater metropolitan area, the company said. 


“We hope this place would be a venue where anyone can enjoy their drones with safety and ease,” said Moon Tae-hyun, DJI‘s manager in South Korea, at the media briefing held on Tuesday.

“The diverse programs of DJI arena will help expand the base of drone and establish a healthy drone eco system,” he added.

DJI said they built the indoor -- not outdoor -- arena to help users enjoy and learn pilot skills without being distracted by weather conditions.

South Korea was chosen as its first test-bed nation because of its tech-savvy culture, the company said.

“Korea is a nation enjoying an exponential growth in e-sports and having higher demand for DJI’s latest device OSMO -- which needs some training to fly,” DJI‘s spokesperson said.

The company said it also plans to expand the arena in other countries if they see enough demand here.

The arena will be a venue for drone beginners to learn about drones and take courses on how to fly them. Apart from entertaining individuals, the venue will also be available for group bookings, corporate event rental, and as a venue for workshops, too.
