[THE INVESTOR] Samsung Display stands firm as leading global manufacturer of small and medium-sized organic light-emitting diode panels, making up 97.7 percent of the global market in the first quarter of 2016, according to research firm IHS. Trailing far behind, LG Display came in second holding 0.9 percent market share, followed by Taiwan-based producer AUO.

Industry experts point to the outstanding performance of Samsung Display's small and medium-sized OLED sales as the key contributor to the company's turnaround in the second quarter of this year. 

LG Display announced Wednesday plans to invest some 2 trillion won ($1.76 billion) to ramp up OLED production. IHS said LG Display is expected to produce 81,500 sheets per month by the end of 2018, while Samsung will likely produce 411,000 sheets monthly.
