Reflecting the growing need for safer vehicles, the Seoul office of German carmaker BMW has released a special edition of its best-selling model 5 Series that features advanced safety functions designed to prevent possible accidents.

The BMW 5 Series Pro Edition which hit the local market in April has adopted the carmaker’s premium option named Driving Assistant Plus that includes the camera-based Lane Departure Warning and Approach and Pedestrian Warning systems with City Brake Activation, BMW Korea said in a statement.

The lane departure warning detects lane markings through camera and warns the driver by vibrating the steering wheel when changing the lane without using a turn signal at speeds above 70 kilometers per hour. BMW’s approach warning system, meanwhile, applies the brakes at speeds between 10 and 60 kilometers per hour to minimize the risks of colliding with a vehicle ahead. The system also sends a warning sound to the driver when the distance between the vehicle and a pedestrian gets nearer and also applies brakes to prevent a possible collision.

“The most important feature of the BMW 5 Series Pro Edition is that it has Driving Assistant Plus as a primary option that hasn’t been applied to other imported vehicles in the same tier,” the company said.

“BMW has been expanding the use of the state-of-the-art driving support system to offer comfortable and safe driving experience in addition to its traditional safety functions such as seat belts and comport seats.”

Not only is the driving assistant function available with the special edition of BMW 5 Series, but the function is also applied to the carmaker‘s Gran Turismo line, a part sports sedan and a part crossover, as well as to convertible vehicles on BMW’s 4 Series.

In addition, the special edition of the BMW 5 Series has also upgraded its design elements, elevating the already classically handsome design to a new level. The carmaker added a M Sport steering wheel for 520d and 520d xDrive M Aerodynamic Pro Edition while applying LED head light for 528i and 528i x Drive M Aerodynamic Pro Edition. The 530d xDrive M Aerodynamic vehicle, the most luxurious model in the line-up, employed not only the M sports steering wheel but also BMW’s signature kidney grille in black as well as carbon mirror camp to produce more dynamic looks.

The price of BMW 5 Series Pro ranges 63.3 million won to 82.4 million won.
