[THE INVESTOR] Hyundai Motor Group’s accumulated output at its plants located in BRIC nations broke the 20-million mark this year, the carmaker said on July 18.

According to the conglomerate, the combined accumulated output at its 12 plants in Brazil, Russia, India and China came to 20.64 million units at the end of the first half of the year.

Of the overseas plants, Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors’ plants in China accounted for the largest proportion of the figure having produced 12.17 million units. The group’s Indian operations came second with 6.7 million units, followed by Russian facilities with 1.14 million units. The company said that about 88 percent of the vehicles produced in the BRIC nations were also sold in those markets.

While the majority of the plants’ output being absorbed in the concerned markets indicates that the company’s strategy was effective, experts say that it also represents a risk for the group, as emerging economies face more uncertainties.
