Korea said Wednesday it is due to hold a joint workshop this week with an OECD panel on how to promote technology-based system innovation.

The forum will be held in Seoul on Thursday, co-organized by the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning and the Working Group on Innovation and Technology Policy at the OECD Committee for Science and Technology Policy.

More than 100 participants, including experts from Canada, Britain, Italy and several other OECD member states, plan to attend the session with the theme "Technology Development and Demonstration for System Transformation," according to the ministry.

It is part of the OECD committee's four-year project to author a report on system transformation in such sectors closely associated with daily public life as environment, energy and safety. It held similar workshops in Britain, Belgium and Germany in 2015 and earlier this year.

The ministry said South Korea will introduce its policy measures, especially in finance, tax and deregulation, to support the development of advanced drones.

It will also offer a briefing on a project to establish a global smart city in Busan and a "tailored wellness" program in Daegu. (Yonhap)
