TV flat panels that enhance colors and brightness for display have become more crucial than ever in the global ultra-high definition TV market, a report showed this week.
The number of UHD TV panels with RGBW technology is expected to increase from 6.6 million to 16 million, according to market research institute IHS’ report.
Among all UHD TV panels, RGBW panels are expected to account for 24 percent of market share this year, from 16 percent in 2015.
The RGBW panel is a new type of TV panel that adds subpixels to a conventional RGB TV panel. It provides added vivid color and brightness to TV screens.
Major TV makers are seeking to increase RGBW panel shipments amid the market shift.
LG Display, which uses RGBW technology in its flat panels, unveiled a plan to supply them to LG Electronics and seven Chinese TV makers.
Samsung Display will also boost shipments of RGBW panels from 500,000 in 2015 to 800,000 in 2016.
Chinese TV and display makers have begun to produce and supply their own RGBW TV panels as well, including BOE and China Star.
