Kumho Asiana Group on Tuesday said its Chairman Park Sam-koo has won a prestigious French award for his contribution to expanding exchanges between the two countries and boosting the two country's aviation industries.

Park was given the Order of the Legion of Honor (La Legion d'honneur) by French Ambassador to South Korea Fabien Penone at Penone's residence Monday.

The award was conferred in recognition that Park facilitated exchanges between South Korea and France as Asiana Airlines Inc., a flagship unit of Kumho Asiana Group, opened its Incheon-Paris route in 2008.

The route had been dominated by Asiana Airlines' bigger local rival Korean Air Lines Co. for more than three decades. Last year, Asiana Airlines announced a plan to purchase 25 Airbus A321-200 NEO jets.

Penone said he expressed his respects to Park for his efforts, calling him a friend of France. Park said he will make utmost efforts to boost the bilateral friendship and exchanges. (Yonhap)
