South Korea will seek close cooperation with other allies in dealing with North Korea's missile launches on Wednesday, a government source said, hinting that the matter can be referred to the U.N. Security Council.

"Whether it was a success or not, the North's launches of ballistic missiles violated the U.N. Security Council resolutions," the source told Yonhap News Agency via telephone. "We will push for diplomatic countermeasures similar to ones taken before."

The similar diplomatic measures may refer to its possible push to raise the North's latest missile launches at the U.N. Security Council and make it adopt a press statement that condemns the North's latest provocation.

Earlier in the day, the North fired off what appeared to be two Musudan intermediate-range ballistic missiles from its east coast in the fifth and sixth test of the missile believed to be capable of reaching the U.S. territory of Guam.

The South Korean military said of the two missiles launched, the first is presumed to have ended in failure. The second missile flew about 400 kilometers, but the military has yet to confirm whether it was a success. (Yonhap)
