A senior foreign ministry official will leave for Europe this week to hold back-to-back policy consultation meetings to discuss global cooperation against the growing threat in cyberspace, the ministry said Monday.

Shin Maeng-ho, the ambassador for international security affairs, will have meetings with his counterparts from the Czech Republic, the European Union and Germany, according to the ministry.

The meeting with the Czech Republic will be held in Prague on Wednesday, followed by ones with the EU and Germany on Thursday and next Monday in Brussels and Berlin, respectively.

Shin is expected to exchange views on the latest cyber security situations, future policy directions to better cope with threats, cyberspace regulations and bilateral cooperation.

"As cyber security has emerged as a major issue in the international community following recent large-scale hackings and increasing cyber crimes, we expect that the upcoming consultation will consolidate the ground for global cooperation against threats in cyberspace," the ministry said. (Yonhap)
