The government said Tuesday it will host a pair of events on broadcasting content in a bid to support the export of South Korea-produced programs.

The Korea Documentary Festival and the Asia Digital Broadcasting Academy will be held on the sidelines of the 10th International Busan Contents Market (BCM) to open on Wednesday in the southern port city of Busan.

The annual four-day BCM is designed to connect local broadcasting content makers with investors and broadcasters at home and abroad.

The festival will set the stage for introducing various ideas on documentary programs to investors from China, Japan and other Asian regions.

The academy is meant to focus on exchanging opinions on the global broadcasting market and promoting networking among figures involved in the industry.

"The government plans to establish a firm system to enhance international competitiveness of (local) broadcasting content as well as support the virtuous cycle of planning, production and distribution (of those)," the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning said.

In line with the campaign, the ministry is also scheduled to host the Asia Media Summit in Incheon, just west of Seoul, from May

24-26 in cooperation with the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development, an inter-governmental organization headquartered in Kuala Lumpur.

It is expected to draw more than 300 participants from around 50 nations who include government policymakers and heads of media outlets, according to the ministry. (Yonhap)
