North Korea mobilized two youth organizations over the weekend to help glorify its leader Kim Jong-un during the ongoing congress of the ruling Workers' Party, the North's main newspaper reported Monday.

The two groups comprising millions of members -- the Korean Children's Union (KCU) and the Kim Il-sung Socialist Youth League -- entered the venue of the party's seventh congress to congratulate the rare event while presenting a floral basket to the North Korean leader in reverence and loyalty, according to the Rodong Sinmun, the organ of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK).

The country's biggest political event opened Friday in the April 25 House of Culture in Pyongyang for the first time in 36 years, drawing some 3,000 party delegates elected at lower WPK meetings across the country to showcase and solidify Kim's sole leadership role.

The appearance of the two youth organizations is the first open congratulatory event since the congress kicked off on Friday. For the first two days, the congress heard Kim's report and conducted various discussions on the different sectors of the country.

In the congratulatory message, the KCU members read, "We wish fathers and mothers (delegates) to attend more faithfully to the honorable Marshal Kim Jong-un who is toiling endlessly under cold wind, rain and snow without rest."

Meanwhile, the members of the youth league read, "We sincerely pray for the well-being of Marshal Kim Jong-un who is our life, future and destiny."

North Korea watchers here said the youth groups' taking the stage to present congratulatory remarks reflects that the young North Korean leader is placing much emphasis on the young generation, who will be the main players in the development of the country's future. (Yonhap)
