A Japanese right-wing activist was additionally indicted on charges of defaming former South Korean sex slavery victims, Seoul prosecutors said Thursday.

Nobuyuki Suzuki, member of an ultra-right Japanese party, is suspected of sending a parcel containing a small defaced statue of a girl and a wooden post to a facility that help former sex slaves and a civic organization that supports the victims in May 2015, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office probing the case said.

The defaced 12-centimeter statue looked similar to those built in honor of the victims. The box for the parcel also contained a piece of paper with the Japanese word for military prostitute written on it, an apparent attempt to further disgrace the victims who were forced to serve as sex slaves during World War II.

Suzuki has already been charged with setting up a provocative wooden stake beside a bronze statue of a young girl in front of the Japanese Embassy here in 2012.

Also, he is accused of setting up wooden stakes in Seoul and Tokyo last year to lay claim to South Korea's easternmost islets of Dokdo.

The activist, moreover, is engaged in a separate trial for putting a similar wooden post next to a monument commemorating Yun Bong-gil, a Korean independence fighter, in Kanazawa of Ishikawa Prefecture in Japan.

Trial proceedings, however, were postponed for more than three years as the activist refused to make an appearance in court. (Yonhap)
