Prosecutors indicted eight former and current executives of a Seoul-based taekwondo association and a former high-level official of a taekwondo association for the disabled on Monday on a string of charges related to corruption.

The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office said former chief of the Seoul-based martial arts association, identified only by his surname Lim, is accused of helping his son-in-law, who had no experience with taekwondo, pass a belt test in March 2011. A former vice chief of the association and a professor at the Korean National Police University were also indicted over alleged involvement in the irregularity.

In a separate case, three former executive members of the association are suspected of giving an unfair warning to a high school student during a selection match in May 2013, causing the student to lose, according to the prosecutors.

A former high official at the Korea Taekwondo Association for the Disabled, identified only by his surname Cheon, is also accused of helping a local high school win a match by making a biased judgment in July 2013, the prosecutors said.

Among the indicted, a current executive member of the Seoul taekwondo association is also included. The suspect, identified by his surname Jin, has been charged with receiving 5 million won ($4,300) in October 2009 in exchange for exercising his power to give a position at a local high school to the bribe giver, the prosecutors said.
