Information security solution company NPCore (CEO Han Seungchul) has recently upgraded its information security product “ZombieZERO,” giving it the capability to detect and root out ransomware*, a type of malicious software (malware).

It also upgraded the mobile version of the product, which was launched last year. As a result, ZombieZERO is now a comprehensive information security product capable of protecting against a variety of malware threats, including data leakage, network disruptions, and ransomware.

Using behavior-based analysis, ZombieZERO detects and hunts down unknown APT (advanced persistent threats) and malware.

This kind of analysis detects and protects against malware on a real-time basis using either a virtual machine or a sandbox technique.

The typical vaccine-based approach, however, relies solely on a signature analysis to track down and quarantine malware that has already infiltrated a system, meaning that countermeasures are executed only after damage has already been done.

Also, signature analysis is particularly vulnerable to unknown malware. Behavior-based analysis, on the other hand, is capable of detecting and removing unknown and modified malware and even malware that uses bypass penetration techniques before it has the chance to do any damage.

Another strength of the ZombieZERO product is that it provides two layers of defense for networks and users’ PCs. An official of NPCore said, “While our competitors’ products take five minutes to complete the detection and removal of malware, ZombieZERO needs only one minute.”

Incorporated in 2008, NPCore has expanded its product line, creating products for B2B equipment as well as PC and mobile versions.

Having achieved annual sales of around KRW 2 billion and gained a solid reputation through its excellent information security technology, NPCore now has a wide variety of customers, including the central government, various local governments, and educational and financial institutions.

The company holds eight patents registered domestically and one patent in the United States, and is now actively exploring overseas markets by establishing a subsidiary and branch offices in the United States.

The Gyeonggi Center for Creative Economy & Innovation, a government agency tasked with promoting startups, will be assisting NPCore with the implementation of its global strategy.

* Ransomware is a type of malware that restricts access to the infected computer system in some way, and demands that the user pay a “ransom” to the malware operators to remove the restriction.
