A Korean fashion event drew the curtains after achieving a record-high number of export deals from foreign fashion businesses, state data revealed Wednesday.

Some 400 international fashion buyers surged to the 2016 F/W Fashion Code hosted by the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and jointly organized by the state-run Korea Creative Content Agency and the Council of Fashion Designers of Korea, a private organization.

A total of 90 local fashion brands participated in the fifth round of the Fashion Code event to present the latest series of Korean fashion in the convention hall located on the hills of Mount Nam in central Seoul on March 23-24.

In the two-day event, foreign buyers proposed a total of 920 business deals worth 7.9 billion won ($7 million), out of which deals worth 1.7 billion won were signed. This is the largest tally since the annual event's launch in 2013.

Korean fashion brand LIE, designed by Chung Chung Lee, signed a contract with China's NY Fashion, and menswear NAVYFACTORY.LAB by designer Kil Kang-wook made one each with French fashion multi-brand boutique Les Eclaires and Japan's Laforet Harajuku Department Store and Museum.

Korean womenswear brand Gaze de Lin won an export deal with the multi-brand boutique Designers' Lounge from Kuwait.

A number of globally recognized multi-brand fashion boutiques from France, Italy and Thailand are still engaged in business consultations with Korean fashion brands, according to the organizer of the event.

"This round of Fashion Code has displayed K-fashion to the world. We will provide all possible support to develop the event into Asia's largest fashion and culture market," said Song Sung-gak, the president and chief executive of the Korea Creative Content Agency. (Yonhap)
