North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has inspected the military's test-fire of a new large-caliber multiple rocket launcher, the North's state media said Tuesday, amid heightened tension on the divided peninsula.

The North's leader has expressed his satisfaction over the "perfect accuracy" of the launch system, praising officials and technicians in the field of defense science, according to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

The leader said that its rocket launchers would help increase "the capability of the Korean People's Army (KPA) to mount a precision attack on the enemies' targets in the operational theater in the southern part of Korea," the KCNA said.

The report did not elaborate on when Kim made the inspection.

The KCNA said it was "the final test-fire" of its multiple rocket system ahead of its deployment for actual combat.

On Monday, North Korea fired five projectiles, presumed to be short-range missiles, into waters off its east coast, in the latest of a series of its provocations over ongoing joint military drills between South Korea and the United States.

The North has ratcheted up its belligerent rhetoric and made provocative acts following tougher sanctions by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on it.

Last week, the North launched two medium-range ballistic missiles into the East Sea and one of them was believed to have blown up mid-flight.

In early March, the UNSC imposed stronger sanctions on Pyongyang over its fourth nuclear test on Jan. 6 and long-range rocket launch on Feb. 7.

Meanwhile, the North's main propaganda website Uriminzokkiri unveiled video footage in which the North targets and blows up President Park Geun-hye and South Korea's presidential office.

The North placed photos of Park and Cheong Wa Dae in crosshairs before shattering them like glass in the 3 minutes of footage.

The North has severely insulted President Park, but it appears to be the first time that the North has unveiled footage of an attack on her. (Yonhap)
