Nissan Korea launched the entry-level model of its flagship electric car Leaf at the 3rd International EV Expo on Jejudo Island on Friday in an effort to raise its domestic market share.
The Leaf S is expected to have a price tag of 26.9 million won ($23,140) after government subsidies of 19 million won.
“Together with the launch of the entry model, the company has cut the price of existing high-end Leaf SL model. In addition, the firm expanded ties with local partners to enhance the EV sales and distribution network,” Nissan Korea CEO Takehiko Kikuchi said in a press conference Friday.
To expand its sales network, Nissan Korea has a distribution partnership with electronics retailer Lotte Himart to sell Leaf cars at its outlets nationwide.
The carmaker also seeks to strengthen the Leaf rental car business in Jejudo by signing a contract with Tamra Rent Car and providing 10 models.
“The moves will help expand sales and services of Leaf cars on the island and inland potentially,’’ he said.
The company has rolled out tempting financial schemes, including an interest-free installment plan for 60 months and 2.5 million won cash refund to all Leaf customers.
Nissan Korea has participated in the global EV expo in Korea, dedicated to pure EVs, since the launch of the exhibition in 2014.
As the global best-selling EV maker, the company used the event to promote its green car lineup and to share its vision and insight on the growing eco-car business.
