Samsung Electronics said Wednesday it will showcase venture projects such as a virtual keyboard for virtual reality headsets and a belly fat-tracking smart belt at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas next week.

Samsung launched a venture-accelerating program, called C-Lab, in 2012 to support diverse venture ideas within the company. 

It will be the first time that the company has unveiled some of the projects at CES, the world’s largest electronics trade show.

Key projects to be showcased include: “Rink,” a hand-motion controller that can be used as a keyboard for VR device users to enjoy gaming and other multimedia contents, and “Welt,” a smart belt that tracks belly fat and the amount of exercise to analyze the user’s fitness.

Another creative idea is “Tip Talk,” a technology that transmits sound through the human body. A special sensor, installed in a wearable device, allows the user to hear sound through the finger without using earphones or headsets.

The technology allows more privacy when making phone calls at public spaces like a theater or noisy construction sites, the company said.

Samsung plans to consider product launches of these venture projects after gauging client response during the CES.

According to the company, more than 100 venture projects have been carried out under the C-Lab program and some 70 are ready for commercialization.

The company also nurtures some of the project teams as start-ups. Innomdle lab, the project team that created Tip Talk, was separated as a venture firm in August to start its own business.
