Samsung Electronics Co. said Tuesday it will showcase smart TVs equipped with Internet-of-Things platforms at a major consumer electronics exhibition to be held in the U.S. early next year.

The South Korean tech giant said it will be using the IoT platform in its entire smart TV lineup for 2016, which will be first introduced at the Consumer Electronics Show 2016 to be held in Las Vegas on Jan. 6-9.

The IoT is a concept in which all tangible objects are connected to the Internet and can identify themselves to other devices in order to exchange necessary data for improved efficiency and convenience.

Samsung, the world's top TV maker, said the platform installed on smart TVs can link to other home appliances that support IoT technologies, such as security cameras. Users can also link the TV with smartphones to freely activate other IoT devices.

The smart TVs can also provide users with customized lightning and sound to deliver a theatre-like experience, it added. (Yonhap)
