POSCO Engineering & Construction is taking on the challenge of building Korea’s tallest residential apartment complex --“LCT The Sharp” -- near Haeundae, Busan. It was chosen in July to undertake the construction.

The apartment complex will consist of three buildings, a 411.6-meter, 101-story landmark tower and two 85-story residential apartments both 339.1 meters high.

The landmark tower will house an observatory, a tourist hotel run by Lotte Hotel and a residence hotel for long-term stay. The two residential apartments will have a total of 882 housing units as well as a shopping mall and a water park.

LCT The Sharp will have a total floor area of 661,138 square meters, which will be the 11th largest in the world and 2.8 times larger than that of the 63 building in Yeouido, Seoul.

POSCO E&C has undertaken many projects for constructing supertall buildings in Korea, with around 200 professionals in the sector and 86 related patents -- five on new technologies.

POSCO has also built eight high-rise structures over 50 stories, including the Songdo Northeast Asia Trade Tower in Incheon (305 m) and the Metapolis Tower in Dongtan, Gyeonggi Province (249 m).

“We have the best technology for high-rise buildings due to continuous research and development,” said POSCO E&C CEO Hwang Tae-Hyun, vowing to “do our best for the successful construction of the Haeundae LCT project.”
