NexSys specializes in IoT-based wearable devices, and based on the potential of its LTE-based image solution technology, the young company was chosen to join the startup incubation program at the Gyeonggi Center for Creative Economy & Innovation last October.

The first product launched by NexSys is the “Smart Helmet,” which is a helmet equipped with an HD camera on the front that transmits image data via the LTE network. The transmitted image is then analyzed by a control center and stored on a server. As it uses LTE, the helmet is not restricted by its distance to the receiver, unlike Bluetooth. Also equipped with a digital radio powered by a safety-proven lithium polymer battery, the Smart Helmet can be used in a variety of workplaces, especially construction sites, to monitor the safety status of workers.

In addition to the Smart Helmet, NexSys has developed sensors designed to be worn by workers to help them avoid accidents. The devices are wearable gas sensors that can be attached to the wrists or shoes of workers and that transmit real-time data to a control center to monitor the wearer’s heartbeat and the presence of gases in the immediate environment. The startup is also developing heartbeat sensors to be added to the Smart Helmet.

NexSys plans to launch the Smart Helmet under the “Helpware” brand in the first half of next year. The brand has been submitted to Japan, China, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United States for trademark registration.

When the Smart Helmet was displayed at an IoT exhibition in China last autumn, the local firefighting authority expressed keen interest. Also, Premier Li Keqiang of China carefully examined the product and asked several questions about it during his visit to the Gyeonggi Center for Creative Economy & Innovation last November. Early next year, NexSys will present the Smart Helmet at CES in Las Vegas. Eom Jeong Han, director of NexSys, said: “Regarding our advancement into global markets, the generous support of the Gyeonggi Center for Creative Economy & Innovation has been instrumental.”
