Daelim Energy, a unit of South Korea’s energy- and construction-centered conglomerate Daelim Group, plans to establish a joint venture with the Islamic Development Bank’s Infrastructure Fund II in Dubai, it said Thursday.

The two sides will invest up to $200 million to launch Daelim EMA, which will carry out investments in the energy sector in the Middle East, Africa and southwest Asia. Daelim said it will be in charge of the management and business development of the joint venture, without disclosing its equity stake in it.

IDB Infrastructure, established by IDB last year on initial capital of $2 billion, invests in infrastructure projects in its 56 member nations.

Through the joint venture, Daelim hopes to discover business opportunities in the lucrative global power plant market, as it seeks new growth engine projects.
