'철도비리' 조현룡 징역 5년 확정…의원직 상실

대법원 2부(주심 김창석 대법관)는 27일 철도부품업체에서 거액의 뇌물을 받은 혐의로 기소된 새누리당 조현룡(70) 의원에게 징역 5년과 벌금 6천만원, 추징금 1억6천만원을 선고한 원심을 확정했다.

이 판결로 그는 의원직을 상실했다.

재판부는 "공여자 진술에 모두 신빙성이 있고 뇌물로 받은 6천만원과 국회의원 의 직무 관련성도 인정된다고 본 원심 판단은 정당하다"고 밝혔다.

조 의원은 한국철도시설공단 이사장 퇴직 후인 2011년 12월 사전제작형 콘크리트궤도(PST) 납품업체인 삼표이앤씨에서 선거비용 명목으로 1억원을 받고 국회의원 당선 뒤에도 2013년 7월까지 6천만원을 더 챙긴 혐의로 지난해 9월 구속기소됐다.

2심은 "공단 이사장으로 재직하다 국회의원에 출마하면서 유관기관에서 불법 정 치자금을 받고 국회에 들어가서는 소속 상임위 관련 이해당사자에게 금품 수수해 죄 질이 불량하다"며 1심처럼 징역 5년을 선고했다.

조 의원과 함께 철도비리 혐의로 기소된 같은 당 송광호(73) 의원도 이달 12일 징역 4년이 확정돼 의원직을 잃었다. (연합)

Top court confirms jail term for ruling party lawmaker

The nation's top court on Friday upheld a five-year jail term for a ruling party lawmaker for taking bribes from a railway parts supplier in exchange for business favors.

The Supreme Court found Rep. Cho Hyun-ryong of the ruling Saenuri Party guilty of taking 160 million won ($146,000) from the head of Sampyo E&C between December 2011 and July 2014 in exchange for awarding the private company contracts.

The 70-year-old lawmaker was also ordered to pay a fine of 60 million won and forfeit an additional 160 million won.

Cho was stripped of his parliamentary seat as the sentence was confirmed by the Supreme Court, lowering the number of seats held by the ruling party in the 300-member parliament to 157.

Earlier this month, two lawmakers, Song Kwang-ho of the ruling Saenuri and Kim Jae-yun of the main opposition New Politics Alliance for Democracy were stripped of their parliamentary seats for separate bribery convictions. (Yonhap)
