LG Electronics Inc., South Korea's No. 2 smartphone maker, said Monday its latest handset jointly manufactured with Google Inc. will hit local stores this week.

The Nexus X5 will be available for purchase starting Tuesday via three local mobile carriers here, for a price of 508,200 won ($449) for 16GB and 568,700 won for 32GB, LG Electronics said in a statement.

The company said it comes in two colors for Korean consumers: carbon (black) and quartz (white).

The Seoul release is part of Google's global sales for the latest Nexus phone in 40 other countries worldwide.

Nexus X5 is LG's third collaboration with the U.S. search engine giant, following the last joint engineering of Nexus 5 in 2013.

Google rolled out another premium model, the Nexus 6P, made by China's Huawei Technologies Co., along with the Nexus 5X early this year, both of which are installed with its most advanced operating system, the Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Google hasn't released a date for the local launch of the high-end model.

The new Nexus phones feature an enhanced camera that performs far better indoors. Google has also adopted a fingerprint sensor for the Nexus phone for the first time, bolstering user security.

The 5.2-inch Nexus 5X comes in a plastic casing and runs on a 2,700mAh battery that has a 20 percent larger capacity than the preceding handset. (Yonhap)
