Business leaders from South Korea and the United States have agreed to cooperate on further strengthening economic ties between the two countries, vowing to jointly search for a solution to tackle a low growth trend.

In Washington, some 100 business tycoons from the two countries gathered on Thursday to discuss how to expand economic cooperation for the two countries, according to the Federation of Korean Industries, South Korea's largest business lobby.

Huh Chang-soo, chairman of the FKI; Chey Tae-won, SK Group chairman; POSCO Chairman Kwon Oh-joon; and other South Korean business leaders attended the meeting. From the U.S. side, Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg, Qualcomm President Derek Aberle and other high-profile figures joined the gathering.

The gathering is tied to President Park Geun-hye's visit to Washington. More than 160 South Korean business leaders accompanied Park to explore business opportunities with their U.S. counterparts.

Park arrived in the U.S. on Tuesday for summit talks with U.S.President Barack Obama on Friday.

The participants called for more efforts to resolve pending trade issues and further expand investment, and agreed to work together to create new business opportunities for both countries, according to the FKI. (Yonhap)
