German carmaker Volkswagen is expected to recall some 2,200 vehicles sold in South Korea over a defect in emissions-related parts, industry sources said Thursday.

Subject to the recall are 1,653 Audi A6 2.0 TFSI sold between 2009 and 2010, and 534 Tiguan 2.0 TDI models sold in 2009, according to the sources.

Volkswagen Korea and Audi Korea, the German maker's local units, are forced to recall the affected models due to changes in recall-related regulations, the sources said.

The German carmaker is set to later recall over 100,000 vehicles sold in South Korea in connection with a recent diesel emissions scandal.

Market experts presume that about 120,000 Volkswagen and Audi vehicles might have been manipulated by the same software found by U.S. environment regulators and be subject to a recall.

Volkswagen Group earlier said that it will start a global recall of affected vehicles in January, providing free repairs and other necessary services to its customers. (Yonhap)
