Over 30 officials at the state-run Korea Airports Corp. have been punished for incidents including sexual harassment and corruption since 2013, an opposition lawmaker said Monday.

According to data provided by the KAC to Rep. Kang Dong-won of the main opposition New Politics Alliance for Democracy, 31 officials faced disciplinary actions for two years, with six of them dismissed.

Despite being led by Kim Seok-gi, a former police executive and current president of the KAC, the firm has faced a string of corruption scandals, Kang said.

“Measures should be addressed to stamp out the KAC employees’ corruption as it is a state-run firm that takes charge of operations and management of the country’s core security facilities including airports,” Kang said.

In 2013, two officials were dismissed for taking bribes from subcontractors that won projects from the KAC to install soundproof windows and doors in houses located near airports.

Four officials, who took some 120 million won ($101,000) for helping a local firm clinch a deal to replace a tactical air navigation system, were sacked in July last year.

In June, a worker at the firm was suspended for three months after being convicted of sexual harassment.

“People think that the KAC would establish self-discipline and stern internal control because its president is a former police high-ranking executive, but the organization’s moral hazard is at a serious level,” the lawmaker said.
