Samsung Pay, Samsung Electronics’ new mobile payment system, is gaining a footing in Korea before its U.S. launch later this month.

According to the company on Thursday, more than 25,000 people have registered to use the mobile wallet every day since its launch on Aug. 20, with the average daily transactions surpassing 750 million won ($630,000).

“More than half the Galaxy Note 5 users are using Samsung Pay. This is a big number considering Koreans rarely use mobile payments offline,” said Rhee In-jong, executive vice president.

Samsung Pay, which made its Korean debut last month, is now available on Samsung’s new smartphones, including the Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, Note 5 and S6 Edge Plus.

Unlike Apple Pay, the Samsung mobile wallet, based on the magnetic secure transmission system, can be accepted by credit card readers at retailers without extra hardware installation.

“Our key competitors are not other mobile wallet services, but plastic cards,” Rhee said.

Samsung said it had carried out a beta service in the U.S. ahead of its official launch on Sept. 28. The company also plans to start testing in other markets such as Spain and the U.K.

The company expected Samsung Pay could elevate its device sales when the payments system secures a firm footing. In order to do so, the company charges no fees to card companies and banks to share the system.

For future profitability, the company said it was considering launching an easier online payment service that would drastically simplify the identification process.
