The management and labor unions of Asiana Airlines have collaborated to bolster the flight safety system.

Asiana Airlines signed a Flight Operational Quality Assistance program agreement Monday at its Asiana Town headquarters in Seoul.

FOQA is a voluntary safety program that analyzes flight data in order to find potential safety risks during flights and eliminate them through education.

Asiana Airlines would be the first airline to manage a FOQA program with both management and unions among Korean and Japanese airlines.

FOQA, which will consist of eight members from both management and labor unions, will be held at least once a month to analyze real flight records taken from anonymous flight attendants and find solutions.

The solutions found from the program will be applied to the personal training program of the flight attendant in question with no penalties, company officials said.

Akiyoshi Yamamura, safety chief of Asiana Airlines, said, “The new program is meaningful in that the company and unions are coming together to take safety precautions.”
