박근혜 대통령은 21일 오후 북한의 서부전선 포격도발과 관련, 경기도 용인의 제3 야전군 사령부를 방문했다.
민경욱 청와대 대변인은 "오늘 대통령의 현장 순시는 우리 군의 대비태세를 점검하고 북한의 도발에 대응하는 군을 격려하는 자리"라고 설명했다.
박 대통령은 이 자리에서 3군 사령관과 각군 작전사령관들로부터 북한의 포격도발과 관련한 우리 군의 대응책 및 북한군의 동향 등에 대해 보고를 받았다.
3군 사령부는 전날 북한의 포격 도발이 감행된 서부전선에서 우리 군의 전투 및 방어 지휘를 총괄하는 기관이다.
따라서, 박 대통령의 이날 방문은 국군 최고통수권자로서 북한의 도발에 단호하고 철저하게 대응하겠다는 원칙과 의지를 확실히 보여주기 위한 행보로 풀이된다.
아울러 김정은 북한 국방위 제1위원장이 '준전시상태'를 선포하고 전군 완전무장을 명령하는 등 남북 간 군사적 긴장이 최고조에 달한 상황에서 북한의 추가 도발을 억지하기 위한 차원도 있는 것으로 보인다.
박 대통령의 현장 순시에는 한민구 국방부 장관을 비롯해 육군 참모총장, 3군 사령관, 합참차장 등 군 고위급 지휘관과 청와대에서 김관진 국가안보실장, 이병기 비서실장, 장 혁 국방비서관 등이 수행했다.
박 대통령은 당초 이날 지방 방문 일정이 잡혀 있었지만, 전날 북한의 포격 도발 이후 이를 전격 취소하고 대북 대응에 집중하기로 방침을 정한 바 있다. (연합)

Park visits key military base over N. Korea's threats
President Park Geun-hye visited a military base near Seoul Friday to check South Korea's military readiness, Cheong Wa Dae said Friday, after a recent exchange of shells between the two Koreas heightened tensions on the Korean Peninsula.
The surprise visit to the headquarters of Third Army in Yogin, Gyeonggi Province, came as North Korea threatened to take military action unless South Korea halts propaganda broadcasts along the heavily fortified border.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has ordered front-line troops to have full combat readiness and front-line areas to be in a "semi-war state" starting at 5 p.m. on Friday, according to the North's state media.
South Korea resumed psychological warfare on Aug. 10 in retaliation for a recent land mine attack that left two South Korean soldiers severely injured.
South Korea accused the North of planting the mines inside the demilitarized zone that separates the two Koreas, a charge denied by North Korea.
