SK Group is rolling up its sleeves for youth job creation as part of its efforts to strengthen socially responsible activities.

The nation’s third-largest conglomerate launched on Wednesday a 2-year-long job creation plan for the youth, aimed at supporting young jobseekers to start their careers.

SK Group said that it recognizes the youth unemployment problem is not something that can be resolved by the government alone, adding that the group’s role should be to create quality jobs for youths and boost business competitiveness.

Under the plan, which was announced at a ceremony to sign a memorandum of understanding at the SK headquarters in downtown Seoul, the conglomerate plans to create 4,000 internships for the youth in collaboration with its vendors and social enterprises between 2016 and 2017.

The business group will cover payment and job skill training for interns, according to officials.

The officials said those who complete the program will get help from the group to be employed at its subcontractors and local venture businesses.

SK Group is also considering giving incentives for applicants who wish to get hired at its affiliates after finishing the internship.

In a related move, the group plans to create a “Youth Rising Program,” where they will set up job assistance centers in collaboration with 25 colleges across the Seoul metropolitan area, Daejeon and Chungcheong region.

The centers will accept 20,000 youths and run job training programs for two years on consulting and incubating start-ups, and plan to select and support the top start-up teams.
