Homeplus announced that it will extend its “Sharing Plus Community Service” to all 140 of its outlets in Korea.

“Sharing Plus Community Service” is a community service program where families and Homeplus employees come together to help out the disadvantaged in their area, such as the elderly, disabled and children in their local children’s center.

Homeplus has operated the program in 12 of its outlets since December and seen participation of 495 people from 218 families through 43 sessions of community service.

It plans to extend the activity across all of its outlets starting in July and hopes to see 5,000 participants.

Homeplus explained that in addition to employees, it extended the participation to Homeplus customers and families to provide an opportunity for those who wish to partake in community service, but lack information or opportunities to do so and to strengthen the bond between local community members.

Participants of the program said children had the opportunity to naturally learn the values of giving and looking after others, and that families found the time ideal to talk to each other and establish a common interest, strengthening their bond.

Families interested in participating should register at the nearest Homeplus culture center information desk by July 31 and participate four or more times a year. Homeplus will also provide benefits such as a certificate and a 10 percent reduction on its culture center registration fee, and will donate 5,000 won ($4.30) to breast cancer charities for each person participating in the community service.
