GS chairman accentuates choice and concentration

GS Group chairman Huh Chang-soo emphasized Wednesday that the conglomerate must look ahead and choose to concentrate on their core abilities instead of trying to do everything well.

“We cannot achieve greatness if we cannot look far ahead,” he said, quoting the late independence fighter Ahn Jung-geun under the Japanese colonial rule of the Korean Peninsula.

“We must realistically analyze our abilities and discern between areas to concentrate and areas to reduce or get rid of,” chairman Huh said during the GS board meeting for the third quarter.

Huh also said that people and corporate culture were the driving force of a company’s competitiveness and implored employees to come forth and lead change and innovation.

Huh, who is also the president of the Federation of Korean Industries, has striven to boost local economies by carrying out a campaign to urge employees to spend the summer holidays in Korea.

Huh said that he also planned to continue purchasing “Onnuri” coupons used at traditional markets for GS subsidiaries in the fall.

GS&Point is also promoting a summer camping event and GS Home shopping is holding promotional events through TV and mobile platforms to help small and mid-sized businesses suffering from low sales stemming from the Middle East respiratory syndrome outbreak.
