Hana Financial Group recently hosted an invitation event to the musical “Hero” at Blue Square in Hannam-dong, Seoul, to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Korea’s liberation from Japanese colonial rule.

About 1,000 Hana Financial Group customers, including members of the “Daehan Minguk Mansae” deposit and savings plan ― jointly created by Hana Bank and Korea Exchange Bank ― attended the event.

The musical followed the story of independence activist Ahn Jung-geun, tracing his life from 1909 to 1910, when he assassinated Prince Ito Hirobumi at the brink of Korea’s annexation to Japan and later faced subsequent execution in March 1910.

Both Hana Financial Group and Korea Exchange Bank also plan to collect 815 won (73 cents) for every person signing up for the deposit plan until the independence day on August 15, after which the proceeds will help fund families of independence activists as well as help preserve independence activity sites overseas.

Attending the musical event was Hana Financial Group chairman Kim Jung-tai, Korea Exchange Bank president and CEO Kim Han-jo, Deputy Minister of Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs Choi Wan-Geun and actor Song Il-guk, whose children recently appeared in a Hana Financial Group TV commercial.

Chairman Kim Jung-tai said that the event was held in order to look back on the 70th anniversary of Korean independence, and added that Hana Financial Group would continue to provide “happy financial service.”
