North Korean leader Kim Jong-un guided an air force drill amid its military's increased exercises to counter threats from South Korea and the United States, Pyongyang's state media said Friday.
  

Kim watched the airfield strike and repair drill staged by the Air and Anti-Air Force of the Korean People's Army, the (North) Korean Central News Agency said, without disclosing the date or location of the drill.
  

The drill was staged "amid the intensified combat drills of all service personnel to wipe out the U.S. imperialists and their stooges hell-bent on war exercises against the DPRK," the KCNA report said.
  

DPRK is the initials of the country's full name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
  

Fighter, raider and bomber wings as well as various types of mine bombs were employed in the drill "aimed to check and confirm under simulated conditions of an actual war the distribution of air forces to be involved in raiding the enemy airfield," the report noted.
  

Watching the drill, "the supreme commander said with great satisfaction that such strikes would utterly shock the enemy forces," it also said.
  

Kim also highlighted intensified flight training so fighter pilots can "acquire high aeronautics, bombing art and marksmanship, and get fully familiar with practical war methods and actions," according the KCNA.
  

A number of high-ranking officials accompanied Kim, including Hwang Pyong-so, director of the general political department of the Korean People's Army, and Defense Minister Hyon Yong-chol.
  

It was Kim's third reported visit to a drill by the air force this year.
  

The North has recently ratcheted up its saber rattling as Seoul and Washington opened their annual joint military drills this month. (Yonhap)
