Korean Air Lines Co., South Korea's largest carrier, said Monday it will start servicing new routes connecting its home country to four different regions in China to meet the growing demand of visitors from the world's No. 2 economy.

Starting March 30, the carrier will offer flights from Incheon to the eastern Chinese city of Hefei five times a week and another service to Nanning in southern China three times every week, the company said in a press release.

The additional routes will also include flights from Jeju to Guiyang, southwest China, and a route from Daegu to the northeastern city of Shenyang, with both courses to be made available three times per week, Korean Air said.

"With the latest service expansion, Chinese tourists to South Korea, as well as passengers that are stopping over, will have a wider variety and more convenient schedules to choose from," the carrier said, adding that among local carriers, Korean Air will be operating the highest number of routes to China.

On the back of growing popularity of Korean pop culture as well as a gradual appreciation of the Chinese yuan against the Korean won, the number of incoming Chinese visitors surged 46 percent on-year to 6.33 million in 2014, according to government data. (Yonhap)
