Jang Seok-hyo, president and CEO of Korea Gas Corporation, on Sunday offered to resign, following prosecutors’ indictment over alleged bribery and breach of trust. The announcement came two days after Energy Minister Yoon Sang-jik urged for his dismissal.
Jang was indicted without detention last month on suspicion that he had received some 280 million won ($255,000) from an LNG tug boat company since July 2013.
He is also suspected of having misappropriated 3 billion won company fund and overpaid his aides when he worked as a CEO of another tug boat company from 2011 to 2013, right before he joined KOGAS as the CEO.
Jang, who started his career as KOGAS worker in 1983, became the first KOGAS CEO to have climbed the internal career ladder. After working for several companies, Jang was appointed in July 2013 and served less than half of his three-year tenure.
