Jeju Air Co., South Korea's largest low cost carrier, said Tuesday that it will start flights on the route between Busan and Guam this week to meet growing demand.

Starting on Thursday, the carrier will offer two flights per week on the route on Thursdays and Sundays, the company owned by Aekyung Industrial Co. said.

This is the first time that the budget carrier will provide flights bound for Guam from a provincial region, not from South Korea's main gateway of Incheon International Airport.

The move will provide more options for people to travel between the southeastern port city of Busan and Guam, a route that has been dominated by Korean Air Lines Co., which provides flights on the route four times a week, the company said.

Jeju Air also will fly on the route between Daegu, a southeastern city in South Korea, and Bejing three times a week starting Feb. 13. This will be the first time that a budget carrier here provides flight services to the capital city of China, the company said. (Yonhap)
