POSCO Engineering & Construction has been selected as the preferred bidder for an $822 million (894 billion won) project to build an export dock in Australia, the company said Tuesday.

The South Korean builder is expected to work on engineering, procurement and construction of “Terminal Zero” in Abbot Point, Bowen.

Adani Mining, a subsidiary of India’s biggest coal importer Adani Group, placed the order for the project.

The Terminal Zero port, Adani Group’s first investment project in Australia, is expected to be a strategic point to export high-quality coal mined there to Asian countries.

Adani Group plans to expand its annual coal export volume to 70 million tons from the current 40 million tons.

In July, POSCO E&C was also chosen as the preferred bidder for the construction of a 388-kilometer-long railway connecting the Carmichael mine in Queensland to the Abbot Point port. The railway project is worth $1.6 billion.
