South Korea and Turkey have agreed to mutually recognize aviation-related certification from either country, which, in turn, will help boost shipments of South Korean aircraft to the west Asian country, the Seoul government said Monday.

A memorandum of understanding on mutual recognition of aviation-related certification was signed in Ankara between South Korea’s Transportation Ministry and Turkey’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation.

Under the agreement, the two countries will no longer require safety or quality tests on airplanes and parts that have already been certified in either country, according to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

“And therefore, the country now has an opportunity to export its four-seat passenger jet KC-100, which was domestically developed, and the two-seat passenger plane KLA-100, which is currently being developed, to Turkey,” it said in a press release.

The ministry said it will continue to explore new global markets for the country’s aviation industry, noting a similar agreement with the United States was signed in October.

“The agreement with Turkey again confirms that the country’s aviation certification system is world-class and that it is recognized globally,” it said.

“The ministry plans to continue expanding its cooperation with other countries, especially those with large aviation markets, such as China, India and Indonesia, to help increase the country’s exports of aviation products.” (Yonhap)
